Updated May 3, 2022

We are sleep obsessed, and our main goal at eachnight is to give you all the assets and information you need to get better sleep each night.

So, we wanted to test a few theories behind the pros and cons of napping to provide our community with some valuable insight. We know that in general different length naps have different benefits, but we are keen to put this to the test, and we need your help!

We are currently hiring for a team of five people to become ‘Nap Reviewers’, and get paid to nap! Also, no, we are not joking…

The team of ‘Nap Reviewers’ will need to be prepared to start work straight away, as well as being committed to napping every day for 30 days. Applicants must be able to sleep alone during the testing period to ensure that the naps are undisturbed. All applicants must also have strong English writing skills in order to accurately carry out the reviews of their naps and follow any relevant instructions.

Applicants from all countries are welcome but must be over age 18.

Over the course of 30 days, our dedicated nappers will be required to take part in a variety of experiments testing out theories such as the best nap duration for feeling refreshed, the effects of napping on overall levels of fatigue, and the effects of napping on memory, motivation, and productivity. The individuals will be required to take part in a video call before and after each experiment, to ensure they understand their tasks fully, and to complete a verbal questionnaire detailing their experiences and results. In return for their participation, each ‘Nap Reviewer’ will receive a payment of $1500 at the end of the testing period.

If you believe you are the right person for the job, then please fill out the below application form. Applications are closed, and we’ve selected and emailed our five winners (listed below)!

  • Benjamin W.
  • Muhammad U.
  • Keandra F.
  • Caitlyn C.
  • Abigail P.

There are various benefits to different lengths of naps when done correctly. We have shared some information below with general advice for napping, and you can find further information here and here, which may be helpful!

Tips for Good Napping

To enjoy the full benefits napping can offer there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing to get some midday shuteye.

  • Set an Alarm: Setting an alarm is important for ensuring you nap the desired amount of time. An alarm can make sure you don’t accidentally sleep longer than you intended, especially if you only plan on taking a short 10-minute nap. This can help you to wake up when you’ll feel most refreshed and rested and avoid experiencing sleep inertia.
  • Find a Quiet Place: If possible, nap in a quiet, dark space with little distractions and a comfortable room temperature. These factors encourage rest and relaxation and can help you to fall asleep more quickly.
  • Avoid Naps Late in the Day: Napping too late in the day can make it difficult to fall asleep that evening. A disruption in your sleep schedule can have a domino effect on the following days, making it hard to get back on track. Avoid napping within seven hours of your scheduled bedtime to prevent any sleep disruptions.
  • Give Yourself Time to Wake Up: Allow yourself enough time to wake up before resuming your day. You may feel tired and less alert for a short amount of time, which can potentially impair your performance.

Jasmin Lee of eachnight said,

“There is an abundance of research that proves the benefits of good sleep, but sometimes even a full 8 hours leaves you feeling groggy and performing at an average level at best. With the added pressures of a worldwide pandemic and many people unable to fully wind down due to working from home, even a good night’s sleep seems out of reach.

“The idea that napping is for young children and burnt-out university students is slowly dissipating and an increasing number of working adults are beginning to see the benefits of a daytime snooze. Understanding that napping can be a tricky thing to get right, we wanted to test out some of the theories behind the practice and decided how better to gather our findings than on real people who might benefit from a nap the most. If you think you’re up to the job, or know somebody who is, please do share and apply!”
