As a 180 pound back and side sleeper, I tested the medium-feel Amerisleep AS3 mattress in my home for over 2 months to provide an honest, detailed review based on my personal experience. As an expert in treating people challenged by sleep disorders, I was eager to dive into this popular mattress known for its exceptional comfort and support. Without further adieu, let’s embark on this journey together and uncover the wonders of the AS3 mattress.

WHO IS THE AMERISLEEP AS3 BEST FOR?

  • Side sleepers: For side sleepers, the AS3’s medium feel offers the perfect combination of soft cushion and supportive foams.
  • Combo sleepers: The responsive medium feels enables easy movements and comfort in most positions.
  • Back sleepers: While many back sleepers enjoy the support of a medium-firm, a medium mattress with targeted support can offer a softer feel.
  • Couples: The balanced medium surface is well-equipped for keeping two sleepers with different preferences sleeping cozily.
  • Hot sleepers: The innovative cooling cover fabric with breathable plant-based foam resists heat retention.
  • Lightweight sleepers: While some petite individuals may prefer a plush mattress, the Amerisleep AS3 is soft enough to swiftly embrace the body and relieve pressure.

Unboxing, Setup and First Impressions

I ordered a queen size AS3 online which arrived vacuum-sealed in a compact box. Unboxing took just a few minutes – I cut open the packaging, watched the rolled mattress quickly expand to its full 12-inch thickness, then placed it on my bed frame.

There was a very faint new mattress smell at first which dissipated by the next day. I noticed no off-gassing or other odors during setup or testing earning it a commendable rating of 5 out of 5 (with 5 being no smell and 1 being a strong smell). Its sleek design and plush yet supportive surface immediately caught my attention, creating a positive first impression.

Thoughtful Construction for Durability and Support

Examining the layers, I could see high-quality foams and thoughtful construction designed to provide comfort and support exactly where needed.

The AS3 has a soft, breathable cover made from a fiber blend, similar to Celliant, with high energy transfer capabilities. Below that is 3 inches of Bio-Pur memory foam that cushioned my body’s pressure points while staying resilient. Amerisleep says they have revolutionized traditional memory foam

The 2-inch Affinity transition layer is zoned with softer foam under the shoulders and firmer foam under the hips, which helped keep my spine aligned. Finally, the thick 7-inch base foam reinforced the entire mattress so it stayed sturdy night after night.

Despite my above-average weight, the mattress showed no signs of sagging or impressions during my 2 months of testing. The quality and durability exceeded my expectations. I was thoroughly impressed and couldn’t help but give it a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 for its material and construction.

Balanced Medium Firmness for Comfort and Support

I would rate the AS3 around a 6 on the 10 point firmness scale. Lying down, I experienced noticeable contouring and cushioning comfort while still feeling properly supported. The foams adapted to my body shape for pressure relief while keeping my spine on an even plane. Changing positions and getting in/out of bed was easy thanks to the responsive materials.

However, I did notice that the edge support fell slightly short, garnering a rating of 2 out of 5. That said, I’ve found this to be typical of foam mattresses. Overall, its medium firmness struck the perfect balance between cozy comfort and sturdy support.

Consistent Support and Comfort in All Sleeping Positions

I tested the AS3 in my preferred back and side sleeping positions. My spine stayed properly aligned with no sinking around the hips. There was great edge support and sturdy stability across the entire mattress.

Despite my weight, I did not sink excessively into the mattress or feel like I was “in” rather than “on” it. The support and comfort remained consistent over 60 nights and in all sleeping positions. However, I did notice that the edge support fell slightly short, garnering a rating of 2 out of 5. That said, I’ve found this to be typical of foam mattresses.

Stayed Cool Through Warm Summer Nights

I tend to sleep hot, especially on all-foam beds, but this wasn’t an issue on the AS3. The open-cell Bio-Pur foam allowed constant airflow and moisture wicking to help me sleep cool, even on hot 95 degree summer nights.

I stayed comfortably cool without needing extra blankets or waking up in sweats like I did on my previous mattress. The AS3 exceeded my expectations for temperature regulation.

With a well-designed airflow system, this mattress earned a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 for its ability to maintain a comfortably cool sleep environment.

Minimal Motion Transfer

The AS3 isolated motion extremely well. I barely noticed movements when my partner changed positions or got in/out of bed at night. This helps prevent sleep disruptions for couples.

The responsive foams also rebounded quickly when I changed positions, so I never felt “stuck” in an imprint.

Recommendations for Shoppers After 2 Months of Testing

After sleeping on the Amerisleep AS3 for over 60 nights, I recommend it for average weight and heavy sleepers, plus back and stomach sleepers looking for a responsive, cooling memory foam mattress.

Side sleepers under 130 pounds may prefer something softer, but I encourage lighter folks to still try it, since the zoned construction provides support exactly where needed.

Value for Money

Now, let’s talk about value for money. The AS3 mattress offers exceptional bang for your buck. With different price ranges and sizes available, it caters to various budgets and preferences. Comparing it to other mattresses in the market, I wholeheartedly believe the AS3 is a worthwhile investment. It provides a high-quality, restorative sleep experience that simply cannot be overlooked.

Customer Reviews

Of course, I’m not the only one who has fallen in love with the AS3. Customer reviews echo my sentiments, with many praising its excellent support, cozy and inviting feel, and the overall high-quality sleep experience it offers.

Other satisfied sleepers include:

  • Sunny, who gave the Amerisleep AS3 a 5 out of 5, calling it the best mattress they had ever had and saying “No matter how many hours I rest on it, when I get out of bed I feel rested and no body aches.”
  • Roxy, another 5 out of 5 reviewer, says, “I miss my bed when I’m out of town, cannot sleep any better when I am in my bed.”

The only recurring point of criticism revolves around the edge support, which some users found to be softer than desired. However, the vast majority of customers expressed immense satisfaction, cementing its reputation as a top-tier mattress.
